Looking back... I don't know about you but Michael Cooper a.k.a. "the Coop" completely immersed in the world of competitive sports...
Coop began his sports broadcasting career in college where he teamed up with Chris Russo who has gone on to fame at WFAN in New York City best known as the Mad Dog. Michael and Chris were friends and sports fanatics way back in the late 70’s and Coop handled play by play for the Rollins Tars NCAA Division 2 playoff bid in 1979 for radio station WPRK... a sports broadcasting career was born.
During the 80's Coop worked with WKIS Orlando sports director Frank Vaught covering college Football and professional golf. Coop always loved Bobby Bowden at Florida State because during a long interview his cassette recorder malfunctioned and Bobby with a big smile agreed to do the entire interview all over again... Coop never forgot it and then went on to work for WCAU in Philadelphia..
Coop's career took him to New Orleans where as a reporter at WWL radio he also worked for CBS and Mutual Radio covering a wide rage of sports including the 1987 Final Four from courtside. Being a native born Hoosier, this was a big event for Coop when Bobby Knight won his 3rd National Championship with the University of Indiana. Coop also covered numerous PGA tournaments including the annual USF&G for Mutual Radio. At WWL Radio, Coop worked on the New Orleans Saints radio broadcasts producing for Archie Manning, and Jim Henderson and experiencing the Saints first ever winning season in 1987.
After a career in marketing and advertising in Los Angeles, Coop returned to Sports Radio in 2000 working for the Sports Fan Radio Network as Executive Producer of the "Fabulous Sports Babe" Radio Show carried on over 250 stations. He was at the game when the Baltimore Ravens won in 2001 and later went on to production duties for "J.T. the Brick" currently heard on the Fox Radio Network. Between 2002 and 2006 Michael was Executive Producer and Sports Director for Stephan Productions, nationally syndicated in over 425 markets across the country.
